Call and general information
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Serbian Genetics Society, it is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the IV Congress of the Serbian Genetics Society. The congress will take place from 1st to 5th June 2009 at Hotel Omorika, Tara National Park. The scientific programme of the congress will cover all prominent areas of genetical research.
Tara National Park includes the major part of the Tara mountain, in West Serbia, 1000-1200 m average altitude. Tara is one of the most beautiful mountains in Serbia, covered by dense, conserved fur tree, spruce, beech, and pine forests, with over 1000 plant species, patterned with clearings and meadows. Rich heterogeneity of the relief, variety of the geological base, humid climate and warm lime habitats, caused formation of numerous forest ecosystems of very complex composition with a large number of relict and endemic species that represent real natural values and rarities. The most interesting endemorelict representative of the Tara National Park is Pančić Spruce, present at this location since Triassic, found and described by Josif Pančić. The wealth of fauna is reflected in the presence of a series of rare but very important species like chamois, bear, deer, weasel, eagle, and in waters a wealth of rarities like trout and grayling.
